AI research tools for consultants
How consultants can use an answer engine, a source notebook, and paper tools without citing a summary they did not check.
Prices change. Umee only records whether a product is free, has both free and paid plans, or is paid. A trial is not the same as an ongoing free plan. Read the official pricing page before you buy.
Consensus searches scientific papers. You ask a question and it returns findings drawn from research literature, with links to the papers. It is useful when a claim needs a study behind it. It is not a substitute for reading the study. Confirm current access on consensus.app.

Elicit is a research tool for finding and screening academic papers and pulling them into a table. Consultants use it to turn a question into a set of studies to read. It is not a general web chatbot. Check what the current plan can search, and read a paper before you cite it.
Gemini Notebook is Google's research notebook, the product many people still know as NotebookLM. You add sources, then ask questions and request summaries grounded in those sources. It is offered through a Google account. Check the official page for current access rules, and do not upload confidential client files to a personal account.
Perplexity is an answer engine. You ask a question and it replies with a written answer and citations you can open. It is useful for a first pass, not for the last word on a regulated topic. Free and paid plans are published. Open the citations before you repeat a claim to a client.
SciSpace is a workspace for reading research papers, with explanations of passages and help finding related work. It suits someone who already has a PDF and wants help getting through it. Check storage limits on the site. The PDF, not the explanation, is the source you cite.
