Research

Research tools help you find sources and read them faster. They are a first pass, not a citation you can trust unread. Open the source, then decide what the source actually says.

Prices change. Umee only records whether a product is free, has both free and paid plans, or is paid. A trial is not the same as an ongoing free plan. Read the official pricing page before you buy. Last reviewed October 2026.

Consensus

Consensus searches scientific papers. You ask a question and it returns findings drawn from research literature, with links to the papers. It is useful when a claim needs a study behind it. It is not a substitute for reading the study. Confirm current access on consensus.app.

Elicit

Elicit is a research tool for finding and screening academic papers and pulling them into a table. Consultants use it to turn a question into a set of studies to read. It is not a general web chatbot. Check what the current plan can search, and read a paper before you cite it.

Research Free

Gemini Notebook

Gemini Notebook is Google's research notebook, the product many people still know as NotebookLM. You add sources, then ask questions and request summaries grounded in those sources. It is offered through a Google account. Check the official page for current access rules, and do not upload confidential client files to a personal account.

Perplexity

Perplexity is an answer engine. You ask a question and it replies with a written answer and citations you can open. It is useful for a first pass, not for the last word on a regulated topic. Free and paid plans are published. Open the citations before you repeat a claim to a client.

SciSpace

SciSpace is a workspace for reading research papers, with explanations of passages and help finding related work. It suits someone who already has a PDF and wants help getting through it. Check storage limits on the site. The PDF, not the explanation, is the source you cite.

ChatGPT

ChatGPT is OpenAI's conversational assistant. People use the chat to draft and rewrite text, summarize notes, brainstorm, and work through everyday questions. OpenAI publishes a no-cost tier and paid plans. What each plan includes changes, so confirm the current terms on the official site before you rely on a limit or a feature.

Canva

Canva is an online editor for social posts, decks, flyers, and simple video. Its AI features sit inside that editor: generating images, resizing a layout, and drafting short copy on the canvas. A free plan and paid plans are both published. Check which AI actions your plan includes before you plan a month of content around them.

Claude

Claude is Anthropic's conversational assistant. It is used to read long documents, draft and edit text, and think through a question in a chat. Anthropic publishes a free plan alongside paid plans for heavier use. Limits move, so read the current plan page rather than an old screenshot.
